Recently, a published report revealed that a Memphis Grizzlies player's home was burglarized by a group of seven men from Chile who have been charged in federal court for orchestrating break-ins at the residences of prominent athletes across the United States.
The report, based on an FBI complaint filed in Tampa, Florida, identified the Grizzlies player as 'Professional Athlete 6.' The burglary took place sometime after 4 p.m. on December 19, 2024, following the Grizzlies' victory over the Golden State Warriors with a score of 144-93 in Memphis.
The burglars made off with jewelry, watches, and luxury bags valued at approximately $1 million from the player's home. Law enforcement officials have refrained from disclosing the player's identity or address during the ongoing investigation.
Notable athletes whose homes were targeted by this group include Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, as well as players from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Milwaukee Bucks.
Several of the suspects were apprehended in January after a traffic stop in Ohio, where they were found to be in the country illegally. The group reportedly operated by splitting into smaller units to carry out multiple burglaries, often documenting their crimes by taking photos with the stolen items.
Ja Morant, the two-time NBA All-Star from the Memphis Grizzlies, has refrained from commenting on the report linking him to the burglary. The team's officials also declined to provide any statements regarding the matter.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to bring justice to the victims of these targeted burglaries, shedding light on the criminal activities of the Chilean group that has impacted various athletes and their homes.
