NBA Skills Challenge 2024: The teams, players, format and rules

It’s time to watch some of the biggest names in the NBA show off their passing, dribbling and shooting in Indianapolis.

That’s right, it’s the 2024 Skills Competition, which features three teams of three players competing for the title. They’ll have three rounds filled with obstacles to dribble around, targets to pass through and spots on the floor to shoot on. It’s the first of the events on a packed NBA All-Star Saturday schedule.

It should be a good time! If you’re looking for the participants, rules, format and tiebreaker? You’ve come to the right place. Here’s a breakdown of all of that below:

The rules and format

Quinn Harris-USA TODAY Sports

It’s three rounds of competition:

  1. A relay with passes, dribbling through pilons, shots and more, and the other teams have to best the fastest time, with the winner getting 100 points.
  2. A passing drill through moving targets, you get points for making each pass in 30 seconds. Winner gets 100 overall points.
  3. A shooting drill. In 60 seconds, you can shoot from all kinds of places on the court, with increased difficulty getting you more points. The winning team gets 200 overall points.

In the event of a tie at the end of all three rounds, there will be a half-court shootout, with the time stopping when a shot is made. Fastest time breaks the tie.
