The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced the postponement of Saturday's Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers home games due to the ongoing wildfires in the area. The Lakers were supposed to play against the San Antonio Spurs at Crypto.com Arena, while the Clippers were scheduled to host the Charlotte Hornets at the Intuit Dome. Both games will be rescheduled for a later date.
In a statement, the NBA mentioned that they, along with the Clippers and Lakers organizations, have been coordinating with local officials in Los Angeles and Inglewood to ensure that no resources are diverted from the wildfire response efforts. This decision was made to prioritize the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.
For the Lakers, this marks the second consecutive game that has been postponed. Their matchup against the Spurs has been rescheduled for Monday. On the other hand, the Clippers are set to face the Miami Heat in Los Angeles on Monday as well.
Furthermore, the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) have pledged to donate one million dollars for immediate relief to organizations such as the American Red Cross and World Central Kitchen, among others. This contribution aims to support those affected by the wildfires and assist in the ongoing disaster response efforts.
Both the NBA and NBPA are also collaborating with the Lakers and Clippers to explore ways to provide longer-term assistance and support for the affected communities, including initiatives focused on rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of the wildfires.
