NBA fans roasted JJ Redick for calling Kyrie Irving an ‘ethical scorer’ on ESPN’s NBA Finals broadcast

I’m not sure I’ve ever rooted for someone to get a job more than I’m rooting for JJ Redick to get hired by the Lakers. Like, do it right now. Seriously. Don’t let him call the next half of the NBA Finals. Get him out of here.

I’m just completely at a loss here with Redick. His work on ESPN’s NBA broadcast has mostly been hit-or-miss for me, personally.

He’s got great insight and does a good job of teaching people about the game as it’s going on. That’s a positive. But on the negative side? Whew boy, you can tell that man spends way too much time on Twitter (just like the rest of us.)

That was never more apparent than when Redick called Kyrie Irving an “ethical scorer” during Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

Yes, you’re reading that correctly.

For those of you who have no idea what an “ethical scorer” is, it’s a player whose scoring is centered around baiting defenders into fouling and getting to the free throw line. Basically, Irving is just a bucket-getter.

The moment was apt! Irving scored 20 points in the first half of Game 3 and it was amazing. Stepback threes, incredible layups, smooth crossovers. It was a joy to watch.

Instead of just saying that like a regular person, Redick went into his NBA Twitter bag and pulled out “ethical scorer,” which undoubtedly confused at least 75 percent of the viewing audience.

Everyone hated this.

Rob Pelinka, please come get this man. Thanks.
