NBA Fans Loved Victor Wembanyama Gushing About His Star-Studded Dinner With NBA Legends

Few franchises in the NBA boast a history like the Spurs. Even fewer boast San Antonio’s sense of linearity — Hall of Fame center David Robinson played with Hall of Fame forward Tim Duncan, who played with Hall of Fame guard Manu Ginóbili, who played with future Hall of Fame forward Kawhi Leonard, etc.

With new Spurs center Victor Wembanyama becoming the heir apparent to San Antonio’s past greats after being drafted No. 1 Thursday evening, it only made sense for him to dine with living, breathing legends.

Wembanyama had dinner with Robinson, Duncan and Ginóbili Friday evening, and spoke warmly of the experience in a press conference Saturday afternoon.

“In probably a couple hours, I learned more about the NBA than I learned my whole life before, you know?” Wembanyama said. “It’s so comforting to see that these people who are so important to the city of San Antonio and to the franchise are such kind people, and generous... I feel like they’ve already started to take great care of me. It’s just so comforting to be in that position.”

Wembanyama, already a popular favorite throughout the pre-draft process, drew continued praise for his handling of the dinner and his subsequent gratitude.

Many marked his media savvy as a potential barometer for future success.

One Twitter user found a picture of all three Spurs greats together, showing off their championship pedigree.

A common theme emerged: Wembanyama is different, conducting himself with a sense of poise beyond his years.
