NBA fans blasted LeBron James for weird interview about ‘disappointment’ in failed Kyrie Irving trade

LeBron James is seemingly still picking up the pieces a day after his Los Angeles Lakers missed out on Kyrie Irving. After fans roasted the all-time great’s team for losing a shot at the talented guard while James himself tweeted three cryptic words in a seeming reaction, he interviewed with ESPN’s Michael Wilbon.

Now, I won’t begrudge anyone for speaking their mind, especially someone with a massive platform like James. But why did he feel the need to have an immediate public conversation about his Lakers — currently 13th in the Western Conference standings — not trading for a great player?

Would anyone else in do this in the first week of February? Would anyone else do an interview about a trade that didn’t happen?

It just appears to be such a weirdly-timed conversation all around:

Props to James for ultimately keeping his eye on the prize (like, say, breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabaar’s all-time scoring record), but I think everyone already safely knew he was disappointed the Lakers couldn’t acquire an All-Star.

What this means for Los Angeles and James’ future remains to be seen. Perhaps we’ll hear about it from him again soon!
