Steph Curry has been breaking the hearts of Golden State Warriors opponents for years. While they occur more rarely these days, a Curry Flurry can be a momentous shifting, backbreaking experience for NBA teams that he plays against, and the 36-year-old guard is still a threat to explode offensively at any given moment.
One NBA coach has had enough of the torture over the years, and says he’ll celebrate when Curry finally retires.
NBA Coach Says He’ll Get Drunk When Curry Retires
The Toronto Raptors were able to pull off an upset against the Warriors on Monday night. Golden State entered the game as a 4.5-point underdog against a team that was 1-15 in their last 16 games, but wound up losing outright. After building a lead that grew to 8 points in the fourth quarter, the Raptors came storming back behind Chris Boucher, forcing the Warriors to lose their fourth game in the last five tries.
After the game, Toronto head coach Darko Rajakovic what it was like trying to coach and defend against the great Steph Curry. He was candid with his answer:
I’m doing my best…I’ve been playing against him for a long, long time. I can’t wait for him to retire, I’m going to get drunk that night, I promise you that. Yeah, I’m going to celebrate.
Rajakovic has been the lead man in Toronto since 2023, but he has been a part of some of the teams that Curry tortured during his time as an NBA assistant coach. From 2014-2019, Rajakovic worked on the OKC Thunder coaching staff, meaning that he was present for the epic playoff series in 2016, and was on the sideline for Curry’s now infamous half-court shot in Oklahoma City from earlier that season.
Rajakovic then spent the next five years of his career as an assistant with the Suns and Grizzlies, Western Conference teams that are all-too-familiar with Steph Curry and his greatness.

Curry’s Time In The League Could Be Coming To An End
He may get to celebrate sooner than we think. Curry will turn 37 years old in two months, and has acknowledged that he is in the twilight of his career. His numbers are slightly down in 2024-25 compared to year’s past, but the shortcomings of his teammates and supporting staff have contributed to the Warriors falling below .500 with their loss in Toronto. There are calls from the fans for Golden State to make a move and get Curry the help he needs late in his career, but there has yet to be a major trade that many are expecting and hoping for.
Steph Curry is averaging 22.7 points per game on a 3-point percentage (41%) that still ranks in the top-35 in the NBA. The Warriors will wrap up their four game road trip in Minnesota on Wednesday, and will try to climb back to .500 against the Timberwolves.
