It’s officially NBA 2K season.
Tuesday marks the second day in a row for new information on NBA 2K19. It’s a safe bet we should be seeing more info every day this week and the news should come steadily leading up to the September 7 early release. After Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James had his first official 2K render and rating released with his new team, it’s time for young Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum to shine.
2K is giving Tatum a ton of respect with the 87 overall rating. This is just one indication of how good the Celtics are going to be in NBA 2K19. We still haven’t seen the ratings for Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward or Al Horford. All three could presumably have higher ratings than Tatum.
The 20-year-old Tatum is coming off a season that saw him average 13.9 points and five rebounds per game in his rookie campaign on 47 percent shooting from the field and a lethal 43 percent from three-point range. In the postseason, Tatum raised his scoring average to 18.5, though his three-point shooting dipped a great deal to 32 percent.
That said, Tatum showed as much promise as any rookie in the NBA last year, and that includes Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons and runner-up Donovan Mitchell. In the last official rating in NBA 2K18, Tatum’s rating was up to an 82.
The 87 overall rating for the launch of NBA 2K19 is optimistic, but a plausible projection of where his game will be in the second year of his career.
