Naya: new luxury patisserie from famous Turkish chocolatiers to open in Mayfair

A new luxury patisserie named Naya is set to open in Mayfair this March. Founded by brothers Can and Cengizhan Ayan — from the family behind famed Turkish chocolatier Pelit — the space on North Audley Street opens in partnership with British designers India Hicks and Anna Goulandris.

Naya, in Arabic (among other languages) roughly translates to mean “new” or “fresh” and incidentally is the founder's last name spelled backwards.

The menu is set to feature a number of baked goods, from Basque cheesecake to “signature” chocolate eclairs, alongside larger celebration cakes and patisseries.

On the savoury side, less is known, but lobster roll and bresaola sandwiches are promised, as is a long wine and Champagne list focusing on French and Italian wines.

With the heritage and family legacy of Pelit, the Standard was told that customers should expect a big range of handmade chocolates and sweets alongside pastries.

Co-founder Can Ayan said: “Our family started in the chocolate business back in 1957, so opening Naya in London felt like a calling for my brother and I. We wanted to create an experience that bridges the old and the new, showcasing our rich family traditions, whilst sparking curiosity with modern elements. We are delighted to bring this new concept to London, using the recipes that have been passed down through our family for generations.”

In charge of the design was Hicks, who has called upon British wallpaper by de Gournay and a tree in the middle of the room to provide a feeling of luxury. Press fluff said the team wants to evoke a “sense of drama” in the place.

Hicks said: “Naya is a project I am incredibly proud to be a part of. We have designed a space that brings together the essence of British opulence and international flair for the discerning and well-travelled guests, and the friends and family who will come through these doors. We spent time considering every last detail, from hidden words hand printed onto the wallpaper and cool playlists created by DJs from around the world."
