The Navajo Nation Human Rights Commission has taken action in response to reported voting machine and printer failures at polling locations in Apache County, Arizona. The commission's executive director, Leonard Gorman, revealed that a complaint has been filed in Apache County state court to extend polling hours by two more hours. This decision comes after receiving reports of malfunctioning equipment at approximately 10 out of 30 voting locations in the county.
While an Arizona state official mentioned that the voting equipment issues in Apache County had been resolved earlier in the day and that efforts were being made to prevent litigation by collaborating with the Navajo Nation, Gorman expressed concerns about persistent problems affecting Navajo voters. He noted that these issues have led some voters to abandon the voting line without casting their ballots.
Gorman emphasized the impact of these challenges on the voting process, stating that the current situation is more severe than in previous elections. Apache County, situated in the northeastern region of Arizona, encompasses a significant portion of the Navajo Nation's territory.
