To what extent can you go to modify your body to look a certain way? How much pain can endure to get your sclera tattooed? For Delhi-based Tattoographer Karan, all it takes is passion and that burning desire to look different from the lot. In an exclusive fashion shoot with The Times of India, Tattoographer Karan reveals all his tattoos and tells the story behind some of the most painful procedures that almost cost him his life.
In the year 2017, Tattoographer Karan hit the headlines for being the first Indian to get his eyeballs tattooed and turn it completely black. He was planning a giant full-body inking which has been finally achieved and he is proudly flaunting them in an exclusive shoot with the publication.
Karan has also got silicon implants on his forehead to get a more sculpted look, "Last year, in October, I got two silicon implants on my forehead to get a sculpted appearance that would add a different dimension to my face. First of all the area was opened up and silicon implants were penetrated. During that process, my blood pressure and heartbeat went really low and I was about to die. But with God's grace, I was revived," he says.
Ask him about his favourite tattoo and he finds it hard to pick one. "Despite having so many tattoos, I just have one tattoo connected from front to back. I have an eye made on my torso which has been made exactly like my dad's eye, so that is something very special to me. Later on, I would want to get white detailing artwork done on the black areas of my tattoo. So many places on my body have been tattoed more than four times just to get the proper tone. And my whole body has been tattooed twice," he adds.
Karan is busy shooting his documentary these days which will be showing his transformation. That project is being spearheaded by director Tushar Tyagi.
People used to call me names on social media. Some of them told me that I look like a demon or a ghost. But I was very determined in my mind that even if the world hates me or boycotts me, I will go ahead with my dream and that is exactly what I did. Even today people write nasty messages to me online, but I don't let them affect me mentally. They say, "Tu marega. Tujko kya lagta hai, you look amazing ( you will die, what do you think you look amazing like this)?" I don't let negativity affect me.
The 31-year-old has also got his nipples and genital pierced. Those procedures were carried on by him. And he has pierced himself more than 150 times on different parts of his body. Karan has also bifurcated his tongue on his own.
Karan credits his head-to-toe tattoo to Rishabh Narang, who hails from Chandigarh. "Apart from all the body modification and inking of my eyeballs, my full bodysuit has been done by Rishabh Narang," he says.
