National Whisky Festival at Glasgow SWG3 - everything you need to know

The National Whisky Festival returns to Glasgow this weekend, with thousands of fans of the dram set to descend on SWG3.

Since launching in 2015, The National Whisky Festival of Scotland has grown from a single whisky tasting event into a popular series of unique cultural festivals all over Scotland, including an annual event in Glasgow.

In the west end of the city there will be hundreds of different whiskies to taste, live music, food, masterclasses and more to look forward to.

So whether you're just getting used to Scotland's favourite drink or consider yourself a whisky aficionado, here's everything you need to know ahead of this year's festival.

When and where is it taking place?

The 2022 National Whisky Festival will once again be held at popular west end venue SWG3 on Saturday, May 7.

There are two separate sessions, at 12.00 - 15.30 and 16.15 - 19.45.

What can you expect?

This year’s edition is set to showcase dozens of exhibitors from many of the most exciting and innovative names from across the industry spectrum.

From delicate and approachable drams to peat-powered favourites, festival organisers say the event will host a diverse range of incredible whiskies as well as guest spirits.

And continuing in the spirit of the festival’s annual partnership with the world-renowned Celtic Connections, this year’s Glasgow edition will feature another specially-curated bill of incredible live music from some of Scotland’s most celebrated musicians to soundtrack your whisky tasting journey.

Those in attendance can also expect cocktails by world-leading mixologists, experimental brewery collaborations, food vendors and exclusive, in-depth whisky masterclasses.

Whisky fans can of course also pick up the likes of art, crafts, glassware and books - furthermore, the excellent Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) have designed the world’s first literal memory boxes, creating 'a sensory experience like no other', based on the science of memory recall and creation. The boxes, which you can find out more about here, will be available exclusively at The National Whisky Festival.
