National Television Awards: Danny Miller fires 'frosty' dig at Stephen Mulhern as I'm A Celeb wins

Danny Miller was accused of being 'shady' towards Stephen Mulhern as the Emmerdale actor accepted on I'm A Celebrity's behalf at the National Television Awards.

While it came to no surprise to the 12,000 Wembley crowd that I'm A Celebrity won the first award of the night, Best Entertainment, there were two notable absentees - the show's hosts Ant and Dec. On Wednesday evening, the Geordie duo revealed they'd have to miss the ceremony, after t hey both contracted Covid.

Sharing a photo of two positive lateral flow tests on social media, they wrote: “Sadly it's true, we even get ill together! After feeling unwell a few days ago, we both tested and we're positive for Covid. We're resting up at home and are sorry that we can't be at the @officialntas. Best of luck everyone and get well soon to everyone else in the same boat."

Danny led the I'm A Celebrity contingent up to the winners' rostrum after it beat Saturday Night Takeaway, as well as Taskmaster and The Graham Norton Show to triumph. And, after mentioning Ant and Dec, he fired a frosty and rather bizarre dig in Stephen's direction. Homing in on Ant and Dec's Takeaway co-star, reigning I'm A Celeb champion Danny said: "Stephen Mulhern's in the crowd, so I'm not sure why he hasn't accepted the award on behalf of them," as the camera focused in on a confused and far from impressed Stephen.

Viewers at home were quick to pick up on Danny's quip, with one tweeting: "Danny Miller having a dig at Stephen Mulhern. How nasty," and a second reacting: "Very weird ! Stephen isn’t anything to do with I’m a celeb lol so Danny needs to get his facts right."

Danny also thanked the rest of the cast and the crew, with the crew having a particularly tough task to contend with in 2021 as Storm Arwen battered the I'm A Celebrity set in Abergele and forced the celebs to be evacuated from the castle and put into isolation, before returning a few days later.

Danny ended his speech by wishing the team best of luck in Australia, when the show returns to the jungle Down Under for the first time in three years.
