National Lottery winner scoops £10,000-a-month prize - and buys an air conditioning unit

A National Lottery winner bought an air conditioning unit after discovering she'd scooped £10,000 a month for the next year.

Suzy Fenton's first purchase with her windfall was a £600 cooling system for her home in Wakefield, West Yorkshire as temperatures soared outside.

The 44-year-old also shared her plans to fly to North America to finally visit friends she met online after winning the Set for Life draw.

She also wishes to pay off the mortgage for the three-bed semi-detached home she shares with her partner Ian beloved Westie-Poo Flynn.

Suzy's ticket on The National Lottery App matched the five main numbers in the Set For Life draw on August 1.

She said: “It was obviously a super-practical purchase but something which was desperately needed.

"We were able to find a local store that had one in stock and could deliver. It came straight away, so we were able to stay cool.

"I play Ark Survival Evolved and I play with a few people but I have two really good friends, one in Alberta, Canada and one in Texas.

"The first thing my friend in Canada said when I told her was 'so that means you can come and see me now?'"

Snooker fan Suzy switched her numbers at the last minute because 'wasn't feeling' her usual set.

She included birthdays and numbers close to her heart, including 47 as 147 is the maximum break in the game.

The customer services administrator has no plans to quit work despite her windfall, which she says allows her the freedom pay off her outstanding debts without worry.

She plans to clear off her car loan before jetting off on a dream holiday and treating herself to laser eye surgery.

Suzy said was chatting with work colleagues about what she would do if she won the lottery just hours before finding out that she actually had.

She added: "I played a lot of pool when I was younger and my lovely parents bought me a snooker table so 147 has always stuck with me, so I did 47.

"I'm just going to carry on working for now and have a review once everything is paid off to see if I could go part-time for a bit.

"But it just allows me so much more freedom to know things are going to be paid off.

"We've got a car loan that will be nice to pay off and the mortgage will be able to be cleared.

"I've got terrible eyesight, I'm as blind as a bat without my glasses so I'm going to see if I'm eligible for laser eye surgery.

"It will be nice to be able to buy some new clothes and just to pay off the debts."

Despite the draw taking place on the Monday evening, Suzy forgot to check her emails and National Lottery online account until two days later.

And when she told partner Ian, he thought she was joking.

She said: “My first reaction was one of pure disbelief, even when they told me.

"It's only when I saw that first payment go into my account that it really hit home."

The National Lottery's Set for Life draw takes place at 8pm every Monday and Thursday.

You can play Set For Life daily until 11pm, or 7.30pm on draw days. Play continues after all draws at 9pm.

As well as changing the lives of the prize winners, the National Lottery funds projects all over the UK.

Since 2004, the Big Lottery Fund has distributed £9.4billion raised by the National Lottery to 130,000 "good causes" across the UK.

This charitable funding is raised directly from a slice of weekly ticket sales.

Lucky Dip tickets are a great option for people who find the pressure of choosing the winning numbers too much.
