National Lottery £8.5m jackpot scooped by one lucky ticket holder

The £8.5m National Lottery jackpot has been won by one lucky ticket holder in a triple rollover.

It marks the third jackpot win in a row and the second biggest in May after another player took home £8.6 million.

Camelot’s Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at The National Lottery, said: “What amazing news, one ticket-holder has won tonight’s amazing £8.5m Lotto jackpot.

"This is the second big win this month after one lucky ticket-holder banked the giant £8.6m Lotto jackpot on 11 May. Players are urged to check their tickets and to give us a call to claim this amazing prize.

“National Lottery players make a huge difference to National Lottery Good Causes across the country generating more than £30m every week.

"Thanks to National Lottery players, over £1.2bn has been distributed to date across the UK to help tackle the impact of coronavirus."

The winning Lotto numbers are: 30, 31, 37, 45, 49, 56 and the bonus number is 51.

Earlier this month, a large family celebrated a massive €8,508,720 National Lottery jackpot prize in Kilkenny.

They became Ireland's newest multi-millionaires with their life-changing win on May 7 when they shared their disbelief and asked to remain anonymous.

“We’ve actually been quite relaxed about it all, which makes it all the more strange," one winner said.

“You always think that when you win the Lotto, you will be jumping around and spraying champagne, but we’ve been quite sensible in the last few weeks and kept our feet firmly on the ground.”

Players for Wednesday's jackpot were able to bag themselves a ticket until 7.30pm and the numbers were drawn at 8pm.

Most UK newsagents and supermarkets across the UK sell tickets from 8am to 11pm all year round.

But on draw day tickets can only be purchased up to an hour before.

Tickets cost £2 each and draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday evening.

To be in with a chance of winning, you simply pick five numbers between one and 50 - plus an additional two Lucky Star numbers from 1-12.

The biggest ever Lotto winner was created in April 2016 when an anonymous player banked £35m.

Earlier that same year In January, two ticket-holders walked away with £33m each.

Other big Lotto winners include three anonymous winners who split the £42 million prize fund in January 1996.

A single ticket won the £26.4m jackpot on the New Year's Eve lotto in 2016.
