National Innovation Challenge launches to inspire the next generation

Young people are invited to help solve some of the planet's big challenges with the National Innovation Challenge, a new competition, developed by Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges (HRUC).

The groundbreaking competition enables schools, sixth forms, and Further Education (FE) college students individually, or in groups of up to three, to outline and propose solutions for current and future industry challenges, either as a concept, business idea, or design prototype, that fit within the theme of sustainable impact. It encourages students to challenge their minds and showcase how their ideas can shape the future.

Konnie Huq, competition judge, said, "Helping young people achieve things they never dreamed possible is all about unlocking their full potential and nurturing their creativity. It’s really exciting to see them challenge themselves, think big, and tackle issues like climate change head-on."

The winners will embark on a transformative educational and cultural journey to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. They will expand their technical skills and global networks, while collaborating with some of the world’s brightest minds in science, technology, engineering, and innovation.

The initiative offers young innovators an unparalleled opportunity to enhance their technical skills, collaborate across borders, refine their critical thinking, and build valuable international networks.

The competition will be judged by outstanding figures from journalism, engineering, education and sport, including TV presenter Konnie Huq, former rugby player Andrew Gomarsall MBE, and representatives from organisations such as Heathrow, Amazon Web Services, and the Department for Education.
