National Herald case: After Telangana Congress leaders, DK Shivakumar to appear before ED today

Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar and his brother, Congress MP DK Suresh, are scheduled to appear before the Enforcement Directorate today in connection with the National Herald case.

Shivakumar had alleged the ED timed his summons to coincide with his participation in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Congress’s pan-India march which is presently in Karnataka. He called it “political harassment” and asked for a postponement, which was rejected.

Yesterday, the ED recorded statements from two Congress leaders from Telangana in connection with the case. As reported by the Hindu, the ED summoned J Geetha Reddy and Gali Anil Kumar for “clarifications allegedly pertaining to donations made through an entity associated with the National Herald newspaper”. Reddy allegedly told the ED her payments were “legal” and intended to pay pending salaries and settle financial issues.

The case pertains to allegations of money laundering against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. In August, the ED had conducted several raids in Delhi in connection with the case, on the heels of the agency questioning Sonia Gandhi for several hours over three days.

But what is the National Herald case and how are the Gandhis linked to it? Worry not, our video explains it all. Watch.
