'National brands' are headed to units in a busy seaside town which have been empty for years.
The Grosvenor Casino at Marine Point in New Brighton, Wirral, opening in May 2012 creating 66 full and part time jobs and was hailed as an example of the top brands the resort’s development could attract. But the venue closed in July 2015 and since then no other retailer or business has occupied the space.
Last year, Marine Point, which is home to a Starbucks, Costa, Iceland, Home Bargains, Hungry Horse and a cinema, was sold by Aprirose for £44m. David Samuel Properties snapped up the 234,615 sqft development which also includes a Subway, Morrisons and a 66-bed Travelodge.

DS Properties has now confirmed to the ECHO they are currently working on plans for more names to be added to the complex. Matthew Beddow, the asset manager for Marine Point at DS Properties, told the ECHO: "We have owned Marine Point since the middle of last year and are working up plans to bring some new names to New Brighton.
"We hope to be able to announce the arrival of two national brands to Marine Point in the next month or so and are actively working with another nationally recognised brand who is looking to open a new unit in New Brighton."
Extra details on what the brands will be and if they will occupy the former casino or the old Harry Ramsden's which is sandwiched between Subway and Starbucks, have not yet been released.
This may come as welcome news to the people of New Brighton and wider Wirral after the announcement in March that JD Wetherspoon was pulling out of its project on Kings Parade. The pub chain had been carrying out a £3 million revamp and extension of The Master Mariner but has now put the land up for sale.
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “Wetherspoon can confirm that it has stopped redevelopment work at The Master Mariner pub (New Brighton) and will not progress with the work. The building and the land is to be put up for sale.
“All staff will continue to work at other Wetherspoon pubs and there will be no redundancies as a result of the pub being sold. This is a commercial decision by Wetherspoon.
“The company remains committed to the Wirral and have a number of pubs in the region, including the recently opened pub in Heswall.”
