A mental health service for young people in South Lanarkshire has won the National Youth Work Award in Health & Well-Being 2022.
GOTO, developed by Lanarkshire charities Regenfx and Liber8, is the first service of its kind in Scotland, bringing together qualified youth workers trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and dedicated counsellors to provide intensive support and wraparound packages for young people who are struggling with their mental health.
"This award means a lot to everyone involved in taking the original risk to do mental health support services differently for young people. Using a combination of youth work and supportive counselling under one project, we have discovered faster ways to support young people and prevent the escalation of poor mental health,” said Wendy McInally, Regenfx Youth Trust manager.
Wendy added: "Some young people require more than the usual mental health services; they require motivation and opportunity to re-engage socially, as well as opportunities to gain confidence in real-life situations allowing them to thrive in the time, space, and places that suit them. GOTO offers all of this to it’s participants.
"The dedication of the staff team, volunteers, and the young people is the very essence of GOTO's success and being recognised with a National Award is another reason for them all to be proud of themselves.
Liber8, based in Blantyre, is a charity that provides a wide range of counselling services to adults and young people in Lanarkshire, whilst the Regenfx Youth Trust aims to identify, design and deliver new and innovative solutions to ease youth poverty, it's associated anti-social behaviour and provide youth diversion activities within the regeneration areas of South Lanarkshire.
