Nation 'gripped' by romantic tale worth 'Netflix series' as woman live tweets couple's first date at Heuston Station

Irish romantics were left on the edge of their seats as a woman documented overhearing an Irish couple on their first date at Heuston Station.

Live tweeting as love blossomed among the strangers, the woman described the pair's instant connection as sparks flew.

She said: "I'm having a drink in Heuston Station and the man and woman at the next table are on their first date. I'm going full Maeve Binchy on this one.

"He just arrived on the Cork train and she on the Galway one. They met online

"Both are widowed and I would guess in their early 50s. He starts talking hurling and she doesn't look enamored with the topic. She starts talking country music and boy do they have that in common.

"I feel Nathan Carter needs to appear singing Wagon Wheel".

After a slightly awkward start, the pair found common ground and soon, the conversation was flowing.

The observer continued: "They are now talking nineteen to the dozen and getting on like a house on fire. She has two daughters who don't know she is on online dating and he has a daughter and son who dont know. They discuss at great length how they will tell their children

"Oh ny god I'm in bits here as they both reached out at the same time and are now holding hands across the table

"He offered to bring her to dinner and they are now discussing dinner options to suit train times. There'll be no hotel room tonight for this pair. The romance of it and I have to leave for my train in 15 mins"

The couple then began to discuss where to go.

"Her: We can just do supermac's for now and maybe meet again?"

"Him: You deserve better then a burger in a train station. Will we go across the bridge to the hotel for a bit of dinner?"

"Her: I'd like that but let me text my children first."

"Him: Right so".

The woman added: "I have to leave to get my train but they are still holding hands so as I'm a romantic soul I'm going to imagine it all works out for them, they live happy ever after.

"I'm on the train now and filled with joy at witnessing two people who have been through life and its ups and downs finding each other.

"I have no idea if it will work out for them but for today at least two people were happy together and we all need happiness.

"Many of you want to know what happened next but I feel I witnessed something lovely and I don't need to know how it ended as I and all of you can write our own ending.

"I'm conscious their children don't know they are online dating so I respect their privacy."

People were left in awe of the tale.

One person said: "I am so grateful to you for sharing (& for being discreet), my old, bruised, romantic soul needed it!"

A second said: "Aren't you so kind and thoughtful but it did bring a brief romantic moment to us alll today".

While a third wrote: "I was totally gripped by this couple. You did such a great job. You should do this for a living!"

And a fourth commented: "Ah Margaret, why didn't you get the later train. There's a 10 episode Netflix series in this. Not to mention a second series".
