Nathan Patterson provides Scotland injury boost as right-back steps up return

Nathan Patterson looks to have provided Steve Clarke with a major injury boost ahead of Scotland's upcoming double-header next month.

The defender has been out of action for Everton since suffering menial ligament injury during their defeat to Brighton last month.

The ex-Rangers right-back has certainly been one of the Toffees' better players so far this campaign, despite their struggles overall.

Scotland face Euro 2024 qualifier games against Cyprus and Spain at Hampden towards the end of March.

Clarke could be boosted with the return of Patterson in his squad though, with the 21-year-old stepping up his recovery process.

He was named in tonight's Everton Under-21s starting line-up in the Premier League 2 to face Tottenham.

That will also give him the chance to impress new Everton manager Sean Dyche, who was confirmed as Frank Lampard's replacement earlier this month.

Speaking about Patterson previously, Dyche said: "A couple of the lads will play tomorrow, which I’m going over to watch.

"Jimmy [James Garner] will play tomorrow, after a bit of a time out, and Patto will play as well in an Under-21s fixture, so I’ll go and watch them for the first time.

“They’re not there yet, you understand, but they have been on the grass with us, and now it’s time to put into game practice and then take it on next week."

Meanwhile, Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes has made a return to Queens Park Rangers training.

It comes a matter of weeks after he was hospitalised last month after suffering from pneumonia.

He was discharged from hospital around two weeks ago, as it was confirmed that the frontman would sit a significant spell out on the sidelines to recover.

Manager Neil Critchley that Dykes would be out of action for the foreseeable future as part of that recovery time.
