Nathan Patterson responds to Frank Lampard question after Everton star shines for Scotland
Nathan Patterson has admitted that he hopes everyone - including Everton manager Frank Lampard - “was watching” his performance for Scotland against Poland on Thursday night.
The 20-year-old started at right-wingback for his country as Steve Clarke’s side earned a 1-1 draw at Hampden Park. Despite being denied victory through an added-time equaliser, Patterson certainly produced an impressive display before being substituted on 67 minutes.
Since his move from Rangers in January, the defender’s sole start for Everton came against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup. Even then, he was subject to a tactical switch and replaced at half-time . The Scotland international will be hoping to have shown enough with Scotland to persuade Lampard to rely on him more at club level , as Patterson is aware he still has a point to prove.
“It was just good to be back playing again. I’ve been working hard in training to make sure I’m ready,” Patterson told the Daily Record . “I’m fit so I can go out there and give my best. That’s what I did. I have to make sure that when opportunities come along I show what I can do.“

Everton may have just been handed 11-game solution to their midfield problem
Heading into a crucial final 11 matches of the season, the thoughts of many Evertonians have turned towards the fitness of Fabian Delph. Undoubtedly, a few weeks ago, you couldn't have predicted that.
The Manchester City star's signing was met with a fair amount of acclaim when it was confirmed in the summer of 2019. It made a lot of sense - an experienced and versatile Premier League performer, coming from the then-champions, still with seemingly a lot to give.
Nobody needs reminding of how things have turned out, but let's just say that the Finch Farm treatment table has seen more of the midfielder than anyone would have liked. Other controversies have cropped up here-and-there, but it's the regular availability that has seemingly held Delph's time at Goodison Park back thus far.
He's now entering the final months of his contract, with there being real uncertainty over what is to come in the future. Before that point comes, however, he still could have a last little something to give to the Everton faithful, though.
Especially in the next two Premier League matches, the Blues are in dire need of a solution in midfield. A suspension to Allan has left Frank Lampard's options in the middle of the park limited, with others proving inconsistent in terms of form when they have been asked to step up to the plate.
