Nathan Patterson 'buzzing' with Celtic penalty as former Rangers kid details Frank Lampard chat

Nathan Patterson has opened up on his confidence to hit a penalty against Celtic and admitted he was 'buzzing' after slotting it away.

The former Rangers starlet came up against the Hoops during the Sydney Super Cup with Everton and was successful from 12-yards after a 0-0 draw between the two sides. Frank Lampard's side triumphed in the shootout with the former Chelsea and England star hailing the 'character' of the Scotland international after the match.

Patterson has become a key player for the Toffees after taking time to adjust to life at the English Premier League side following his big money move from Ibrox last January. The confidence in his ability was shown by stepping up to the plate. He has been hitting them in training and says he was a 'wee bit confident' as he detailed his conversation with Lampard.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: "I've taken a few penalties in training so I was a wee bit confident, that is why I stood up.

"I asked the gaffer and he questioned me and was like: 'Are you sure?' But I like to feel the pressure, when you play football you are in a pressure environment so I am used to it.

"Of course, obviously the pressure in taking the penalty and the pressure of it being against Celtic as well, but I just wanted to step up, I asked to take a pen, I felt confident and slotted it away so I was buzzing to do that."

He continued: "The support all the way out here in Australia has been amazing, the city is unbelievable and the weather is great - tough conditions [to play in] but all the boys have done really well. The supporters are great.

"They have come all this way so I wanted to show we are thankful they came, so signed some of the strips and it is great to see them all."
