Nathan Lane returns to Broadway for limited engagement of ‘Pictures From Home’

NEW YORK — Nathan Lane is coming home.

The three-time Tony Award winner will star in “Pictures From Home,” a new play based on Larry Sultan’s acclaimed photo memoir of the same name.

It will be Lane’s first Broadway show since he starred in the 2019 world premiere of “Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus.”

Adapted for the stage by Sharr White, “Pictures from Home” also stars Danny Burstein and Zoë Wanamaker. It begins performances Jan. 10, at Studio 54 on Broadway.

Award-winning director Bartlett Sher, whose previous credits include “The King and I” and “To Kill A Mockingbird” will helm the production, which is slated for a limited engagement.

The play “brings to vivid theatrical life a comic and dramatic portrait of a mother, a father and the son who photographed their lives,” according to the announcement.

Sultan, who was born in Brooklyn and died in 2009 at age 63, was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and multiple National Endowment of the Arts grants. Known for his conceptual photography of homes, Sultan’s staged and documentary-style images were primarily set in the suburban Southern California environs he grew up in. His subjects included family members, migrant Latino workers and the adult film industry.

Published in 2002, “Pictures from Home” is a collection of photos and home movie stills chronicling his parents’ lives.

Lane, 66, whose Broadway credits include “The Producers,” “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” and “The Odd Couple,” won his first Primetime Emmy Award this year for his recurring role in the popular Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building.”
