Nathan Ake lauds teammate Erling Haaland as Pep Guardiola makes Man City fixture admission

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines on Thursday, May 4.

Ake heaps praise on Haaland after City star breaks PL record

Nathan Ake insists Erling Haaland deserves 'everything he gets' after the Manchester City striker broke another major Premier League record in Wednesday's 3-0 win over West Ham United.

Haaland netted the second of City's three goals, breaking forward to latch onto Jack Grealish's pass before dinking a lovely finish over Lukasz Fabianski. It was the Norwegian's 35th goal in the league, taking him past Alan Shearer and Andy Cole as the Premier League's highest-ever one-season goalscorer.

RATINGS: Nathan Ake and Jack Grealish great in Manchester City win vs West Ham

City boss Pep Guardiola was spotted gathering the City players by the tunnel after the final whistle for a guard of honour, for which Haaland was evidently touched. And speaking after the final whistle, Nathan Ake, who opened the scoring on the night, praised the striker for his consistent work behind the scenes.

"It’s crazy the way he came in and does what he does every day,” Ake told Sky Sports. "Today, scoring the goal, he's always there. To be honest he deserves everything he gets. He works so hard, he's a top top player but the way he works for the team and how humble he stays after all the praise, I think he's a great addition and hopefully he can score even more."

Guardiola names City's most difficult game of PL title race run-in

Manchester City's win over West Ham was proof that no game will be easy in their quest to win another Premier League title.

City beat Arsenal and Fulham in the last week to take control of the title race, but were made to work hard at Craven Cottage, and were under pressure for large periods in the 3-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday.

That was their first of two games in hand that took them top of the table, however Guardiola made a point of warning his players and wider supporters that nothing should be taken for granted. The manager also pointed out Arsenal's big win over Chelsea as evidence that they won't give up their title, and predicted that the trip to Everton on May 14 will be one of the most difficult tests they could face in the final five games.

"I said after Arsenal when everybody said it's over, it is not over and yesterday Arsenal prove it, they will not give up," Guardiola said after the West Ham win. "I know well Mikel [Arteta] how competitive he is and a few players, they are a historical team and they will be there. Every game we have a question, like Fulham. We were quite stable and at the end we create enough chances to win the game. We have an opportunity on Saturday to go four points ahead before they play and after we will see what happens in Champions League, Goodison Park. Game by game."
