Nate Diaz made training offer from former world champion for boxing debut

Nate Diaz has been offered help in training for his professional boxing debut by former lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopez.

The ex-unified lightweight champion has moved up to super-lightweight since losing his belts to George Kambosos Jr last year and is keen to get work in with as many fighters as he can. One such person on his radar is the recently-released former UFC star Diaz, who is one of the most popular figures in MMA.

The younger Diaz brother recently fought out his UFC contract and has an abundance of offers on the table for fights in almost every discipline imaginable. That includes professional boxing, where Lopez would be happy to work with him, as well as his older brother Nick, who also has just one fight left on his promotional deal.

"I'm more of a fan now into UFC than I am into boxing, because boxing is fake," Lopez said during a recent episode of The MMA Hour. "All the boxers are fake. I like Masvidal, for sure, Nate Diaz is dope, man.

"That's a dog, and Nick - I could train them [for boxing] too. I'm someone that loves to just teach like the art of man right here, Bruce Lee, he went against his own culture to teach war.

"I think he implemented a lot of stuff into even my life, which is that that's our canvas [the boxing ring], that's our art and it's what we do with it. What do you want the world to see? I think that's what the true essence of it was and, for me, I really want to show growth on my creative side. That's why I have a crooked smile, I don't need to be perfect, I already am perfect in God's eyes."

Lopez returned to winning ways back in August when he moved up to super-lightweight after recovering from a horror injury that occurred while cutting weight for his fight with Kambosos Jr last year. And he returns to the scene of that fight - Madison Square Garden's Hulu Theatre - on Saturday night when he faces Sandor Martin in his second comeback bout.
