The 10-round bout ended with Diaz emerging victorious by majority decision, with two judges scoring the fight in his favor with scores of 98-92 and 97-93, while the third judge scored it as a draw, 95-95.
This win marked Diaz's redemption after his third-round TKO loss to Masvidal in November 2019 during the UFC's BMF title fight. Diaz had been dissatisfied with the stoppage due to a cut, and this victory allowed him to settle the score.
Following his triumph, Diaz expressed his desire for two more rematches, targeting Jake Paul, who defeated him in a previous boxing match, and UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards. He stated, 'My main objective is to be the best fighter in the world, so I want to go back and get a UFC title. Leon Edwards, Jake Paul, and anybody else, you're dead.'
On the other hand, Masvidal, who had retired from MMA but hinted at a possible comeback, disagreed with the judges' decision and called for a third fight against Diaz to break the 1-1 tie between them.
The match showcased Diaz's signature high-volume style, as he overwhelmed Masvidal with his relentless pace throughout the 175-pound fight. While Masvidal landed some powerful shots, Diaz's durability and work rate proved to be decisive factors in securing the victory.
The event, co-promoted by Diaz's Real Fight Inc. and Masvidal's Gamebred Boxing, featured other notable names from the combat sports world, including former UFC champion Anthony Pettis, who faced Diaz's longtime teammate Chris Avila.
