Natalie McNally's brother says finding her killer is 'all the family have left'

Finding Natalie McNally's killer is all the family have left, her brother Declan has said.

The 32-year-old was found dead in her Silverwood Green home in Lurgan on 19 December, where it is believed she was stabbed the day before.

She was 15 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

Declan McNally described his sister Natalie as fun, funny, kind and brilliant.

"She got on with every challenge," he told BBC's Good Morning Ulster, mentioning her type 1 diabetes diagnosis. "She was just a wonderful person, it's hard to describe, she was just brilliant.

"We're devastated, it's like the bottom of the world has fallen off, it's just unbelievable. People say 'your worst nightmare', but you'd never have a nightmare like this.

"It's unbelievable, we're just trying to take it day by day, minute by minute."

Of his sister's pregnancy, he said: "She told the immediate family.

"So us, her brothers knew, and a few people. But our plan was on Christmas day, she was going to tell everybody.

"It's devastating. My parents don't have any grandchildren, this was going to be their first grandchild."

On December 26, several hundred people gathered in Lurgan for the funeral of Ms McNally, who is survived by her parents Noel and Bernadette, and her three brothers Brendan, Niall and Declan.

On Christmas Day, Brendan McNally said that he would not fully recover from his sister's death, and called for violence against women and girls to end.

Declan McNally said the support of people across Lurgan and beyond was helping the family get through the tragedy.

He added: "We just can't reiterate enough that if anyone has any information whatsoever, even if it seems insignificant, bring it to the police or bring it to Crimestoppers.

"We need justice because that's all we have left now, is to try and find out who and why did this to Natalie."

Meanwhile, Stormont MLAs have been invited to attend a silent vigil in memory of Natalie on Thursday by Sinn Féin's Michelle O'Neill.

The vigil is to be held at 2pm at Parliament Buildings this Thursday.

On Monday, Natalie's childhood friend Ellen Toner called for political leaders to lend their voice to calls for justice for the murdered 32-year-old.

Ms O'Neill said political representatives had a "duty" to support the McNally family and all those affected by gender-based violence.

“The brutal murder of Natalie McNally has sent shock waves through the community in Lurgan and further afield," she said.

"Natalie was 15 weeks pregnant when she was murdered. She was in her home where she should have been safe.

“Her death is the latest in the long and terrible number of murders inflicted on women and is a dark reflection of the misogyny that continues to permeate much of our society and culture.

“As political representatives, we have a duty to show our support, sympathy and solidarity for Natalie, for her family and for the many victims of gender-based violence.

“We have a responsibility to stand against this violence. There should be zero tolerance of gender-based violence but also of the culture and attitudes that drive and normalise this violence.

“I am inviting MLAs from all parties to join in a silent vigil in memory of Natalie McNally, and all victims of gender-based violence, at the front of Parliament Buildings at 2pm this Thursday 5 January.”

The charity Crimestoppers has offered a £20,000 reward for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Natalie's murder.
