'Nasty streak' - Liverpool legend explains why Thiago is his favourite player

Mark Lawrenson has revealed that Thiago Alcantara is his favourite current Liverpool player.

The Spanish midfielder had a slow start to his Anfield career after joining from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2020 and was often hampered by niggling injury problems.

However, this season Thiago has established himself as an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans as the Reds continue to fight for silverware on multiple fronts.

The 30-year-old has made 18 appearances so far this season, scoring twice, and was lauded by fans and pundits alike for his performance during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Lawrenson has been impressed by Thiago’s consistency throughout the Reds’ campaign, as well as his range of passing and ‘nasty streak’.

“He’s my favourite player Thiago. He's got his socks down and he's just so aware of everything on the pitch," he told Off The Ball .

“He’s got radar, his passing is fabulous.

“He’s got a little bit of a nasty streak in him as well which I like and he gives them a completely different dimension.

“You can tell all the players love him as well.

“That midfield now, when we were looking at the start of the season it needed a little bit of strengthening, now there are so many players.”
