NASCAR Suspends Cody Ware Amid Felony Assault Charge

NASCAR indefinitely suspended driver Cody Ware on Monday as he faces assault charges in connection to an April 3 incident.

Ware was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault on a female and felony assault by strangulation inflicting serious injury after an incident in Mooresville, N.C. He was taken into custody Monday and subsequently released on $3,000 bond.

Ware, 27, is the son of Rick Ware—the owner of Rick Ware Racing, for which Cody drives the No. 51 car. His brother, Carson, is also a stock car driver.

In his eight-year NASCAR career, Ware has started 97 races in the Cup Series, 28 races in the Xfinity Series and seven races in the Camping World Truck Series, winning none and placing in the top 10 twice.

"We are aware of the incident regarding Cody Ware and his indefinite suspension from NASCAR competition," Rick Ware Racing said in a statement. "We understand NASCAR’s position on this matter and accept their decision."
