Napoli shocked by Rangers as young guns show Gio van Bronckhorst how it's done on European away day

Rangers have triumphed 3-2 over Napoli in their penultimate UEFA Youth League match in a big boost for their qualficiation hopes.

It;s been a torrid time for the senior side managed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the Champions League's Group A section, losing all four matches so far against Ajax, Liverpool and Napoli by an aggregate score of 16-1. They are Naples tonight to face the latter club but their youngsters have been squaring off against the Italian starlets in a mirrored match at youth level.

Zak Lovelace proved the key man for the Light Blues. Robbie Ure had initially put them ahead and the attacker signed from English Championship club Millwall in the summer doubled their lead. Napoli soon hit back through Alessandro Spavone's two goals that came in first half stoppage time to level up this encounter, before the English teenager struck again, this time from 12 yards out.

It was a nervy end to the match as Rangers looked to claim three precious points and eventually they got them over the line.

Knocking Liverpool off top spot is out of reach for the Ibrox youngsters but they still have a realistic chance of coming second ahead of Ajax.

A win for the Amsterdam club against the Reds in their next match would put them out of sight, but anything less means their Glasgow hosts next week could nip in front with a victory.
