Napoli handed huge favour as Inter slip up in Serie A title race

The Serie A title race was last night blown wide open as Bologna defeated league leaders Inter Milan.

Substitute Riccardo Orsolini scored at the death on the 94th minute to stun Inter with an acrobatic overhead kick to secure a 1-0 victory for the hosts at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

Lewis Ferguson wasn't involved in the matchday squad, but he'll have certainly copped the thanks of his Scotland international teammates Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour at Napoli.

The result means Antonio Conte's side trail Inter on goal difference only, with the sides level at the summit of Italy's top-flight on 71 points.

Just six matches remain of the season, with McTominay and Gilmour eager to become league champions in their debut seasons since moving from England last summer.

Meanwhile, Ederson’s diving header strengthened Atalanta’s hopes of Champions League football as AC Milan’s hopes of European football for next season were dealt a fresh blow.

The Brazil international’s goal secured a 1-0 win at the San Siro which left Sergio Conceicao’s men in ninth place, six points adrift of the top six with just five games remaining.

Empoli and Venezia both passed up opportunities to climb out of the relegation after a 2-2 draw at Stadio Carlo Castellani.

In Spain, Federico Valverde left it late to maintain Real Madrid’s LaLiga title challenge with a last-gasp winner against Athletic Bilbao.

Valverde struck with a piledriver in the third minute of stoppage time to snatch a 1-0 triumph at the Bernabeu which kept Carlo Ancelotti’s men within four points of leaders Barcelona.

Ayoze Perez maintained Villarreal’s Champions League qualification bid with the equaliser in a 2-2 home draw with Real Sociedad on a day when they had three goals disallowed.

Yeremy Pino had given the home side a seventh-minute lead, but Mikel Oyarzabal’s double – the first of them from the penalty spot – had the visitors ahead until Perez struck.

Ante Budimir’s double edged bottom-of-the-table Real Valladolid to the brink of relegation after a 3-2 home defeat by Osasuna.

Kike Garcia ensured struggling Alaves emerged from their trip to Sevilla with a 1-1 draw by cancelling out Peque Fernandez’s early header.

Carlo Boukhalfa’s late equaliser further dented Bayer Leverkusen’s hopes of defending their Bundesliga title as they were held 1-1 by lowly St Pauli.

Patrik Schick had given the champions a first-half lead, but Boukhalfa’s 78th-minute strike left Leverkusen eight points behind leaders Bayern Munich with four games remaining.

Third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt had to settle for a 0-0 draw at Augsburg, while goals from Serhou Guirassy, Felix Nmecha and Daniel Svensson kept Borussia Dortmund in touch with the top six after a 3-2 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

In Ligue 1, Lyon’s hopes of a top-four finish were dented as they lost 2-1 at struggling St Etienne in a game which was marred by an incident in which one of the assistant referees was hit by an object apparently thrown from the stands.

The hosts were leading through Lucas Stassin’s early goal when referee Francois Letexier took the players off, and Stassin struck again on their return before Tanner Tessmann pulled one back for the visitors.

A goal from Thomas Meunier and two from Jonathan David either side of Alexsandro’s own goal eased Lille to within a point of third-placed Monaco following a 3-1 win over Auxerre, while Nice maintained their challenge for a top-six finish with a 2-1 win against Angers thanks to Pablo Rosario and Ali Abdi.

Goduine Koyalipou, Neil El Aynaoui and Wesley Said struck to hand Lens a 3-1 win at Brest, who had taken the lead through Pierre Lees-Melou, but had Alfred Ndiaye sent off, while Toulouse’s Mark McKenzie suffered the same fate in a 1-0 defeat at Reims in which Jordan Siebatcheu scored the only goal.
