Napoli boss makes Tanguy Ndombele training claim ahead of Serie A debut following Tottenham exit

Tanguy Ndombele is in line to make his Napoli debut on Sunday afternoon following his loan switch from Tottenham. Out of favour in north London under Antonio Conte, the French midfielder departed for the second time on loan in 2022 after initially returning to former side Lyon at the end of January.

Failing to recapture his best form back in France, the 25-year-old will be hoping to hit his stride at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona as he bids to get his career back on track. Napoli have a clause in their loan agreement to sign Ndombele permanently next summer, which is understood to be for £25million.

Having arrived in Italy on Thursday before his season-long loan deal was confirmed 24 hours later, Ndombele could make his bow for his new side later on Sunday afternoon against Monza. Confirming their 24-man squad on their Twitter account earlier in the day, Ndombele has been included by boss Luciano Spalletti along with fellow new arrivals Giacomo Raspadori and Giovanni Simeone.

Speaking to the media to preview the game, Spalletti was asked about his new signings, specifically Ndombele. It's fair to say that the Spurs man has already made an impression on the Italian, especially on the training pitch for Napoli.

"Ndombele can play in any midfield position. I was struck by his enthusiasm when he arrived at Napoli," said the 63-year-old, as reported by Napoli's official website. "He has an incredible desire to win and shows great willingness. As soon as I saw him in training, I could envisage him wearing the Azzurri shirt.

"He's a powerful player but also has quality. He has great technical ability, especially in pushing the team forward."

If Ndombele doesn't take to the pitch for the Naples-based club on Sunday against Monza, he will have plenty of opportunities before the month is out with Fiorentina and Lecce to come. There's also the chance that the player could come up against Tottenham in the Champions League as the Lilywhites are in Pot 2 and Napoli Pot 3 for Thursday's draw in Istanbul, Turkey.
