Naomi Osaka's grandfather 'proud' of her masks

The grandfather of tennis player Naomi Osaka, this year's winner of the U.S. Open, said he was "so proud" of the masks she wore at the tournament to protest racial discrimination.

"There are some radical people out there, so I was worried about her, but I thought what she did was admirable, and that she has a lot of courage," said Tetsuo Osaka, 75, in Nemuro, Hokkaido, on Sunday morning. "I'm so proud of her."

Osaka managed to come from behind to win the U.S. Open. Regarding her victory, Tetsuo commented: "I'm so surprised, I have no idea what to say."

"I'm so glad she won," he said.
