Former world number one tennis player Naomi Osaka has given a sad update on her personal life, announcing that she and her partner of five years, rapper Cordae, have split up.
The Japanese four-time Grand Slam champ made the revelation in a brief Instagram Story on Tuesday, where she announced she and Cordae are “no longer in a relationship”.
“No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad,” Osaka wrote.
“Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”
The pair publicly shared their relationship in April 2019, when they were spotted at an NBA game together. In July 2023 the couple had their daughter together, Shai.
Cordae also featured prominently in the hit Netflix documentary series about the tennis superstar’s career, simply named Naomi Osaka.
Osaka recently competed in the Auckland Open, where she was forced to end her time in the tournament early due to an injury.
Her participation in the upcoming Australian Open is currently up in the air, however Osaka clarified in a statement that she is still hoping to compete.
“I’m having an MRI today to assess. I don’t feel that it’s too serious and I still feel very optimistic about AO,” Osaka said.
The star also pulled out of formal competition in 2021 due to mental health issues she’d been facing since 2018.
