Naomi Girma, the first million-dollar player in women's soccer, suffered an injury during her debut for Chelsea on Sunday. The United States defender was substituted after 59 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Brighton. The extent of the unspecified injury is yet to be determined.

Chelsea coach Sonia Bompastor provided an update on Girma's condition, stating that the injury does not appear to be severe, but further assessment will be conducted. Girma, 24, joined Chelsea from San Diego Wave in January for a reported fee of $1.1 million, setting a new world-record transfer fee for women's soccer.

In the match against Brighton, Girma was replaced by Nathalie Bjorn as Chelsea aimed to secure a positive result. Despite falling behind to goals from Maris Olislagers and Vicky Losada, Chelsea managed to equalize through Lauren James in the 61st minute.

Chelsea, the five-time defending Women's Super League champion, currently sits five points clear at the top of the standings, ahead of Manchester United. Bompastor highlighted the competitive nature of the league and praised Girma's efforts in adapting to her new team and surroundings.

The match at Brighton's Broadfield Stadium provided valuable experience for Girma as she continues to integrate into the Chelsea squad. The team will monitor her injury closely as they prepare for upcoming fixtures in the Women's Super League.

Chelsea's resilience in securing a point against Brighton showcased their determination to maintain their position at the summit of the league table. With Girma's potential return to action pending further assessment, Chelsea will look to maintain their title challenge in the Women's Super League.
