Naomi Campbell pays tribute to Windrush generation grandmother as she dies at 77

Naomi Campbell has penned an emotional tribute to her grandmother, who died at the age of 77.

Naomi wrote that Ruby Louise Campbell Russell came to the UK as part of the Windrush generation, but that her "heart always remained in Jamaica".

Windrush refers to the post-war period of immigration, during which nearly half a million immigrants came to Britain and helped the country cope with its new labour shortage.

Sharing a string of snaps of the two of them together, Naomi thanked her "true, loyal" grandma for all the principles she had instilled.

"Dear Grandma Ruby Louise Campbell Russel," she wrote, "all that I am is because of you , even though I would moan and groan to have to do my chores , your discipline has remained with me till this very day and I thank you.

"You stayed true and loyal to your faith for 77 years . You travelled the world and was loved by so many where ever you would go.

Another offered: "I see where your beauty comes from. May your wonderful, strong, inspiring Grandma Rest In Peace."

"Sending lots of love to you & your family," a third commented.

Naomi made headlines recently when she backed singer Adele during a cultural appropriation row.

Adele sparked a backlash when she wore her hair in Bantu knots in a post about how much she missed Notting Hill Carnival.

Proving she didn't agree with the detractors, Naomi shared heart and Jamaican flag emojis on the post.
