Nanny killer in freedom bid amid claims he is being bullied behind bars because he’s Brit

A man who murdered his children’s nanny wants to be released from his US prison cell early… claiming he is mistreated for being British.

David Taylor, 67, got 25 years for the 1999 killing of Milena Pitkova, 22.

She had become his lover and he snapped when she said she was leaving him for a younger man, strangling her and bludgeoning her with a hammer.

Taylor has now launched an appeal to be allowed to return to the UK and a prison source said: “For years, he’s has been whingeing about his treatment.

“Taylor believes the prison system has conspired against him to stop him gaining early release and returning to the UK. He’s filed numerous lawsuits, even using the pandemic as a reason.

“His latest attempt, however, is to say he’s been singled out for different treatment because he’s a Brit. The governor rolls his eyes every time he hears it.”

Electrical engineer Taylor employed Milena, known as Milly, at his home in Basingstoke, Hants, to look after his then 11-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter after his wife, Susan, left.

When he took a job in Madison, Connecticut, Milly went too. He murdered her in March 1999 and in 2001 brokered a deal with prosecutors to avoid a possible 60-year term.

He said at sentencing: “In a fit of anger, my mind snapped.”

Milly’s mother Anna, who was in the courtroom, told him: “You’re not a person. You’re like the devil.”

Taylor, who is in the Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers, had an initial application for early release refused.

But Connecticut Appellate Court reversed the decision, allowing his case to be heard. It said he claims he has limited “access to rehabilitative programs and community release because he is a British citizen”.
