Nando's fight with chair erupts in front of screaming diners and young children

Diners were left shocked after a fight broke out in a packed Nando's in Greater Manchester.

Footage shows a woman wielding a chair after grappling with a fellow customer in front of stunned families. Plates were also thrown in the row that erupted last weekend, witnesses said.

The scrap started just after 6pm on Sunday at the Nando's on Trafford Retail Park in Urmston. The place was packed with weekend diners and families enjoying an early evening meal out.

A video of part of the scrap shows a woman grappling with a man over a chair - and then wielding it at him as he tries to wrestle it off her. In the background small children are seen dining with their parents, and then a number of diners try to move out of the way as the wild scene unfolds.

A shocked mum and dad are seen in the background protecting their child from the drama as the warring pair clatter into tables as they jostle with the chair. In the video the woman is seen using the chair to jab at the man who backs away and a diner can be heard screaming.

The man and woman are seen mouthing at each other, while another man is eventually able to take the chair off the woman. A staff member is seen trying to intervene in the situation.

Witnesses say that after the scene on the video, plates were also smashed in the restaurant. Olivia Malone, 24, from Salford was among the shocked diners who saw what happened.

She said: "A man and woman started kicking off - they weren't there together I don't think. I captured the video of it happening, but afterwards plates were thrown as well."

On her original social media post about the incident she told friends: "It was mental." She added: "Staff eventually had to remove both parties and police were called."

Greater Manchester Police and Nando's have been contacted for comment.

Chicken chain Nando's has had a restaurant at Trafford Retail Park since 2015, and offers sit-in and takeaway food options for its range of Peri-Peri spiced treats. The retail park, in Urmston, is becoming a burgeoning site for fast food restaurants as it also boasts a Five Guys, McDonald's, Pizza Hut and Starbucks.

It's conveniently located close to the M60, and is only a short drive to the Trafford Centre. It also has an Aldi and branches of B&M and Home Bargains among the large retailers on the site.
