Namak in St Werburgh's is first Indian restaurant by top Bristol chef

One of Bristol’s most experienced chefs has opened his first Indian restaurant in the city.

Harris Massey previously co-owned the popular Indian and Chinese restaurant Rock Salt on Cotham Hill.

Before that, he worked for the award-winning national Indian restaurant chain, Dishoom.

Harris has now opened Namak on Mina Road in St Werburgh’s, on the site previously occupied by The Cauldron, which closed at the end of 2021.

Dishes on the menu at Namak are inspired from many regions of India and Harris and his chefs say they are bringing a ‘fresh new take’ on Indian dining.

The menu incorporates traditional curries such as beef madras and chicken korma with tandoor dishes like lamb tikka tandoori with black pepper, honey and ground spices, and maki tikka (tandoori salmon marinated with mustard and dill).

Since it opened its doors, Namak has been fully booked most evenings and Harris says he’s pleased with the positive response so far.

“We have an extremely experienced and passionate team and have created a menu that we are very proud of.

“St Werburgh’s is such a wonderful area, with a great community, and we feel very lucky to be able to be a part of it.”
