Naked Man Arrested For Assaulting Police Officer In New Mexico

New York City Police Department (NYPD) police officers

An unusual incident unfolded in New Mexico when a 24-year-old man, identified as Elijah Jason Paul De Armond, was arrested for a series of disturbing actions that took place on Saturday night in Las Cruces.

According to court documents, De Armond was found completely naked and causing a commotion in the 900 block of Gilmer Way. It was reported that he was banging on the front door of a residence in the area.

The situation escalated when the homeowner confronted De Armond and asked him to leave the property. Allegedly, De Armond became disorderly and proceeded to rip a light fixture off the front porch. He then reportedly threw a rock at the front glass door, causing it to break. Additionally, he is said to have damaged the front window, possibly using his hands.

Upon the arrival of Las Cruces police officers, De Armond attempted to flee but was quickly intercepted. Despite being ordered to the ground, he resisted arrest and even assaulted one of the officers. The documents state that he grabbed an officer's vest and refused to let go, resulting in a physical altercation that required the intervention of multiple officers to subdue him.

De Armond now faces several charges, including two counts of battery upon a peace officer, indecent exposure, criminal damage to property over $1,000, and resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer. He was subsequently booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Facility.

This bizarre incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of law enforcement work and the challenges officers face in maintaining public safety.
