BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty said she was ‘told off’ by producers moments after she left Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt speechless.
The BBC Breakfast host and fellow presenter Charlie Stayt were passing proceedings over to Matt when Naga made a savage dig at the TV chef on Saturday morning.
After weather reporter Matt Taylor presented his daily forecast update, Naga told viewers: “From one Matt to another. We're with you until 10 o'clock – that's when Matt Tebbutt takes over in the Saturday Kitchen.”
The camera then cut to a smiling Matt who was live from the kitchen, as Naga greeted him and said: “Good morning, how are you?”
The TV chef replied: “That last Matt really scared me because I thought I had a minute and a half, and I was on my phone texting my friend and I nearly dropped it.”
Naga joked: “He's really scary generally so it was the right sentiment,” before Matt asked: “Do you have any favourite Matts?”
The journalist immediately replied in a deadpan voice, saying: “Matt Taylor,” to which the shocked TV chef replied: “Brilliant.”
Matt then introduced his forthcoming guests Prue Leith and Gareth Malone and passed back to the BBC Breakfast studio, when Charlie said: “Do you want a bit more time? Do you want a bit more? Does it make it more awkward?”
Matt replied laughing: “Yeah, why not...what shall we chat about?”
Charlie said: “I don't know really, I just thought it was all feeling a little bit awkward – I don't know how it is from there, is it feeling a bit awkward?”
Taking it in good humour, Matt laughed: “It's not awkward,” and then turned to choir star Gareth and asked if he was feeling uncomfortable, to which he replied: “It's very very nice.”
Matt added: “It's a very relaxed vibe going on today.”
Cutting back to the BBC Breakfast studio, Naga said: “It's Gareth...he always brings a relaxed vibe.”
Pointing out that his segment was longer than usual, Matt cheekily asked: “Have you lost an item because you seem to be filling?”
Naga then replied: “No we haven't, we're actually being told off in our ears to move on, so enough of you.”
This comes after Naga took to social media to bid an emotional farewell to one of her BBC colleagues after he announced his departure from Newsnight.
The BBC Breakfast host paid tribute to Stephen Smith, describing him as a ‘bloody decent person’.
After the Newsnight Culture correspondent announced his departure from the Beeb, Naga wrote: “One of the best creative wordsmiths/journalists I've ever had the honour to work with.
“And above all, a bloody decent person. Good luck, Stephen!”
