Naga Munchetty and co-stars bid farewell to BBC Breakfast colleague amid departure

Naga Munchetty and some of her co-stars from BBC Breakfast have been among those bidding farewell to one of their colleagues who has left the show this week.

The presenter, 47, has commented on the departure of colleague Kate Varley, who had been a producer and journalist on the BBC show for almost five years.

Kate took to Twitter on Friday (February 3) to share a photo of herself among some of her colleagues from the breakfast show, with the group seen sat on the iconic red sofa.

The photo showed Kate sat in the middle of the sofa, surrounded by colleagues from the show. They included presenters Naga, Charlie Stayt, 60, and Mike Bushell, 57.

Kate wrote in a caption that accompanied the photo: "Saying goodbye to this brilliant team this week. @BBCBreakfast thanks for an incredible 4.5 years - I'll miss you!"

She added in a follow-up tweet: "Looking forward to new challenges at @morningireland (and finally moving back to Ireland after more than a decade away eeeks)".

BBC Breakfast host Naga was among those who reacted to the post, with her having written in a reply on the platform this week: "You will be greatly missed. 1 more to go..."

Teasing that they would be seeing each other the following day, Kate replied: "Thanks Naga. Feels very real now! See you in the morning (I'm bringing treats)".

Fellow presenter Jon Kay, 53, tweeted in response to the initial post: "We'll miss you right back! You've been brilliant on Breakfast, Kate. Thank you - and all the best at RTE".

Whilst BBC weather presenter Matt Taylor said: "Aw Kate - wish I'd been there to see you off. [...] You've been a joy, even when you were chopping my time. Good luck!"

Former BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker also reacted to the news recently (BBC)

And the post also prompted a response from former BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, 45 - who departed the show last year and now fronts the news for Channel 5.

He tweeted: "All the best Kate. Where are you off to?" Later noticing her follow-up tweet about her new job, he added: "Oooh… I've just seen MORNING IRELAND! Great stuff".

Kate responded by saying: "Thanks Dan. Finally making my way back home!" And she expressed hope that "all is well" for her former colleague at Channel 5.
