Nadine Dorries has issued a statement as she confirmed she has quit the cabinet.
The Liverpool-born Tory MP was a loyal ally to Boris Johnson throughout his tenure as Prime Minister. Mr Johnson delivered his final address as PM outside No 10 this morning before he hands the keys over to his successor, Liz Truss.
Ms Dorries has taken to social media to confirm Ms Truss asked her to stay on as Culture Secretary. However, she has has chosen to return to the backbenches when the new PM takes the reins.

She said: "I have submitted my letter of resignation to the outgoing Prime Minister. I am humbled that Liz Truss extended her confidence in me by asking me to remain as Secretary of State for DCMS.
"I will always show her the same loyalty and support I have to @BorisJohnson Onwards!" In her letter of resignation to the outgoing Prime Minister, shared on social media, she said it had been an "honour" to serve in his Government.
She said: "I know that Liz will be a worthy successor; protecting your legacy and providing both leadership and vision for the nation." It is expected Ms Dorries will now be given a peerage in Mr Johnson's resignation honours list, triggering a by-election in her Mid Bedfordshire constituency.
