N'Golo Kante, Jorginho: 5 players Chelsea may be forced to sell after Roman Abramovich decision

It has been quite a week at Chelsea with Roman Abramovich announcing on Wednesday that he is looking to sell the club after 19 years in charge, and more problems could be on the horizon.

As per The Athletic, sources close to Stamford Bridge believe that the departure of Abramovich could lead to the club having to sell players they previously had no intention of letting go.

This is due to the vast amounts of money the Russian was willing to invest each season - something a new owner may be unlikely to match.

With the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta set to be out of contract at the end of the season as well, this is not news that Thomas Tuchel will want to hear.

If such a scenario were to happen, football.london takes a look at five other Chelsea players who could be sold and why it could be them who are moved on.

N'Golo Kante

Kante will go down in history as a Chelsea legend having helped them to success in the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and Champions League since arriving from Leicester.

But he could be one of the stars sacrificed this summer if the club's hand is forced. Now 30-years-old, it was reported back in September that Chelsea would be willing to cash in on the player to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.

While his importance to Tuchel's side is clear to see, it does appear Kante could be near the front of the queue for any necessary sales with injuries starting to play a larger part in his selection over the last year.

Jorginho

Midfielders could well be high on Tuchel's wish list come the end of the season.

Like Kante, Jorginho's contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023 and is unlikely to be offered a significant extension, having now also entered his 30s.

In fact the Italian is reportedly already considering a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer due to the uncertainty caused by Abramovich's decision.

Timo Werner

Werner's career at Stamford Bridge is still yet to spark into life and, frankly, it is starting to feel like it never will.

Under both Frank Lampard and Tuchel he struggled to adapt to the Premier League and has been unable to cement a place in the German's system over the past year, swapped between playing as a striker and a winger.

Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a move for Werner in the summer as they look at potential Erling Haaland replacements and Chelsea could well be tempted to cash in.

Hakim Ziyech

Werner is not the only player Borussia Dortmund have been linked with in the past.

Ziyech proved to be a valuable source of goals for the Blues during a tricky period at the start of 2022 but like so many others has also struggled for consistency at Stamford Bridge.

Inter Milan and Barcelona have also been linked with the Moroccan and Chelsea could stand to make a pretty penny from his sale in the summer.

Kepa Arrizabalaga

The Spaniard was signed for big money under Maurizio Sarri but now finds himself comfortably second place behind Edouard Mendy in the pecking order.

Chelsea explored the possibility of loaning him out during the January window and a summer exit now looks more likely to happen than not.

Newcastle are said to be competing with a number of La Liga sides for his signature.
