MYSURU: During the Hindu month of Ashada, the Sri Chamundeshwari Temple atop the Chamundi Hills in Mysuru collected a revenue of over Rs 3.5 crore.
The temple generated revenue of Rs 1,03,69,270 from special entry tickets alone. However, in 2019, Rs 15 crores was collected by selling the tickets.
It may be recalled that on Ashada Fridays this year, thousands of devotees from across South India had visited the temple. In 2020 and 2021, devotees were not allowed to temple on Ashada Fridays due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
According to the temple authorities, demonised notes to the tune Rs 1 lakh were also found in the hundis.
Rs 2,33, 51,270 was collected from the hundis. Nearly 270 grams of gold and 1kg of silver were also donated by the devotees during the period, which stretched over 37 days.
“Rs 2.2 crore was in notes of different face values while Rs 3.3 lakh was found in coins,” explained temple executive officer CG Krishna.
Foreign currencies were also found in the temple hundis.
