You can find all sorts lurking in a canal - as volunteers discovered in Manchester last week. Shoes, traffic cones and even a microwave were among the bits of rubbish found by Canal and Rivers Trust as they drained the water near Canal Street.
But a canal in Tameside has welcomed a rather unwanted attraction in recent days. A car has been found dumped in the Peak Forest Canal, off Dunkirk Lane, in Dukinfield.
Mystery surrounds the vehicle which has been floating in the canal, with locals unsure when it was first dumped. The car has been left with a smashed windscreen, and both the boot and driver's door wide open.
Dylan Mackie saw the unknown car stuck in the canal while training for a marathon on Sunday (March 12). He shared an image of the car in the Dukinfield Community Group on Facebook.
One user replied: "I’m surprised a traffic warden has not put a ticket on it yet." Another added: "He can’t park there."
The Canal and Rivers Trust has been approached for comment.
