Mystery over Mansfield discount shop that's not opened in 3 weeks

A major shop in a town centre has been closed for three weeks and people are wondering why. Stock Monster on West Gate in Mansfield has been shut with a sign in the window which states “closed til Monday, sorry,” but shoppers say that was several weeks ago and it hasn't opened since.

People are still showing up at the store wanting to shop or browse but are having to leave disappointed. Peter Taylor, from Woodhouse, was one person heading to the store in the hope it would be open to purchase some furniture.

The 73-year-old said: “I was going to buy a grey settee. This must be the third [week] . I thought it had gone bust - I like to pop here everyday. I like to see the clothes and the ornaments. I like to come here to look around and this is the third week. There used to be a lot of people going in there.`

Shopper Graham Scott, who is 64, told Nottinghamshire Live: “I came here last week and it was the same sign. I looked again today and that Monday has been and gone now. I'd like it to be open.”

The store opened in April last year, it took on the former BHS store site on West Gate which was vacant for around five years.

Shoppers Ann-Marie and Vonnie both visited the store last week, only to find it closed. The pair came back again and it was still closed. Ann-Marie Livingstone-Kania, 52, said: “We came last week and it was shut. It’s been about three weeks. It’s a different shop from what we have in Mansfield. It would be disappointing if it closed.” Vonnie Livingstone-Kania, 52, added: “I shop in it quite a lot.”

Mrs Gill, 53, told Nottinghamshire Live she travelled 10 miles to shop at Stock Monster. She said: “We thought it closed on Jubilee weekend. We came on Jubilee. I was hoping it was open but it’s no. I’m concerned because a lot of shops have closed. There’s a few shops in the town centre that have closed after Covid. It’s the unknown. We travelled 10 miles and it’s one of the shops we go to so it’s disappointing.”

Wayne Warren, who is 74, from Mansfield noticed the closed sign three weeks ago. Mr Warren said: “They delivered something to me in the last few weeks. The signs have been there for about three weeks. It was the first I’d ever been - I bought myself a new sofa. It was beautiful.”

Nottinghamshire Live tried to contact Stock Monster for comment.
