Mystery of alpaca travelling through Airdrie town centre appears to be solved

Remember the one about the alpaca who did some sightseeing in Airdrie town centre through a car window?

No, we're not trying to pull the wool over your eyes but Lanarkshire Live may just have solved the eye-catching and bizarre mystery.

We told you how the far from oridnary sight of the South American animal peeking its neck out for some sightseeing greeted shoppers, workers, motorists and pedestrians in the town in March.

Could it be that cuddly Annie, the orphaned alpaca, is the lovely, inquisitive guest who brought such joy to locals - and a whole host of questions to boot?

Annie's owner Danny Burns, from the Alpaca trekking Centre in Stirling, had reared her when her mother rejected her at birth.

Danny bought two alpacas on Gumtree after giving up his 9-to-5 as a double-glazing salesman.

Annie travels in cars and makes OAPs smile in care homes during welcome visits from the selfless animal.

Danny now has 70 alpaca and owns the centre in Stirling, with the critters even offering service with a selfie.

Danny said: "Alpaca trekking is accessible and people can get up close with them and get a selfie.

“The alpacas are trained to do that.”

Annie lives with Danny and his family ever and is fully housetrained and often travels in style in the back of Danny’s car.

Speaking about the trekking centre last year, Danny said: “We’ve doubled our turnover in a year-and-a-half, just purely by the staycation situation.

“People can’t go abroad at the moment so they’re choosing to do something locally.”

So in the unlikely event you're walking through Airdrie town centre and and a alpaca is checking out the sights once again, there's a great chance it's just Annie enjoying a day out.
