Loud bangs that sounded like "explosions" were heard right across Merseyside during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Many people were quick to jump onto social media around midnight after they were woken up to "unusually loud bangs".
People in Halewood said they heard the noise after their homes were "shaking", and people in Liverpool, Knowsley, St Helens and even Wirral were quick to say they too heard the noise.

Some people even reported seeing "flashing lights".
One social media user in Aigburth said their dog was "going crazy", with another in the Liverpool Region said he was "annoyed" as he was kept awake despite being up early for work.
Some people said it sounded like "explosions" as the bangs were "huge" and were like "rockets".
One person said: "What was that noise?"
Another said their "house was shaking".
A third added they were "loud bangs at an indecent hour".
A fourth wrote: "Loud bangs in Roby!! Sounds like fireworks or gunfire. Strange for early Tuesday morning!!"
However, some users were quick to say the loud bangs were simply fireworks to make the start of the Chinese New Year.
Chinese New Year is set to see celebrations across the world this week.
The festivities for the Lunar New Year will see homes festooned with red paper lanterns and families gather to share sumptuous feasts.
This year, Chinese New Year falls on February 1, although celebrations will typically last 16 days, starting from Chinese New Year’s Eve (January 31) until February 15.
